As per the RNS dated 2 September 2019, Pires is seeking shareholder approval at its forthcoming AGM for the amendment of its investing policy to also include the technology sector. Should the approval be forthcoming, the Company will invest into a portfolio of 10 established companies, by way of an investment in the venture capital fund, Sure Valley Ventures. These companies are in the high growth artificial intelligence (AI), augmented/virtual reality (AR/VR) and internet of things (IoT) sectors and have successfully progressed through their product stage and now are demonstrating successful commercial traction.
Initial investment to be made on equivalent terms to the valuations at which the original investments were made. A number of these investments are believed to have already increased in value since the original investment was made.
Realisations made by the fund will be distributed to investors at the time of realisation and so the return on this investment is expected to be received throughout the life of the fund.
Pires will also seek to make other technology investments in both the software and other sectors and in later stage opportunities alongside this core investment.
